Check grading and drainage around your home
A very worthwhile late-April job is to walk around your house after a rainfall and see where the water is going.
What to do
- Check that soil and garden beds slope away from the foundation
- Make sure downspouts are pushing water away from the home
- Look for pooling water near basement walls or walkways
- Clear leftover leaves and debris from drainage areas
Why it matters
