A Night to Remember at the Spire: Our Kathleen Edwards Experience

On Saturday night, October 12th, we had one of those rare, unforgettable evenings that just sticks with you. We went with our wives to see Kathleen Edwards perform live at The Spire in Kingston, and it was part of the Small Halls Festival . Now, if you’ve never heard of the Small Halls Festival, it’s something special—bringing big names like Kathleen to these intimate, historic venues across Ontario. Trust us, if you haven’t been to a show yet, you’re missing out.

So, let’s start with the venue: The Spire. This place used to be the Sydenham Street United Church, built way back in 1852, and it still has all the original charm. When we walked in, the towering ceilings and stained glass just took us in. It was like stepping into another time. The acoustics in there? Unbelievable. We felt like Kathleen Edwards was singing directly to us, every note filling the space perfectly. Listening to her voice had Jay remarking, “It’s like her voice just hung in the air—you could feel every word.”

As for Kathleen Edwards, what can we say? She’s the real deal. Her voice is so raw and genuine, and the way she tells stories through her music is unreal. Whether she was playing one of her classics like “Change the Sheets” or newer material, she had the whole room hooked. Sean’s been a fan for years, but seeing her in this kind of setting? Totally different. He turned to me at one point and said, “This is one of those moments you don’t forget.”

What really made the night though, was the vibe. The Small Halls Festival is all about creating these intimate, memorable experiences. And honestly, it worked. The Spire, the music, and the people—it all came together for an evening that felt personal and special.

We’re already looking forward to seeing who’s coming up next in the festival. If you get the chance to catch a Small Halls show, don’t hesitate. You’ll thank us later!
